Signatures and greetings from various wings

From Billy Kearse to FADP

The following is just 2 letters typed out of the 33 that I received the 4th of August, out of which several had signatures and greetings from the entire wing.
FDRAG received at least 100 greetings – extended to FADP also – and this was only the first day of mail after the fans arrived.
Also in the visiting park the joy was noticeable.
The men came up to me and told me:
One had not had a headache for two days, which was highly unusual for him in the summer months.
One told me he had slept all night long without waking up just once.
One told me how he woke up, without feeling the tension and aggravation that normally follows, just waking up to another day of heat, in fact he gave up explaining, shook his head and said: I will never be able to put into words what this means, it makes a WORLD of difference.
Another one told me they did not even have the fan on speed level three, they were too afraid to wear the fan out, and too afraid something would happen so they lost them again.
The guard in the visiting park told me how they had worked like crazy to get the fans out to all the men as soon as they arrived, and he was very pleased by it too. All in all a day I too, fail to be able to put into words.
I will let the two letters below explain just a little of what I received that Wednesday.
Hannah

Wednesday august 4th, 2004

Hello,

Just wanted to shoot you all a letter, and let you know how much I’m enjoying the fan you all were so generous as to buy for us. It is most appreciated.
We received the new white fans this afternoon and have been enjoying them ever since.
What a huge difference it makes, to have a fan blowing air on to me!
Yesterday at this time, I was so miserable that I barely felt like writing a letter, watch TV, or even read a book.

Now I can put my headphones on, and not sweat to death. I wasn’t able to do that without a fan since I spend my time fanning myself with a legal pad back, which did little to cool my body down. Now I can switch the fan to the medium setting and aim it at me! How great is that
Everyone else has been enjoying their new fans as well, and it has calmed the tension considerably. Sleep hasn’t been coming easily over the last few weeks due to the lack of circulation and I’ve lost a lot of sleep do to it. Now I’ll be able to keep the fan aimed at me all night long and sleep restfully!
The staff here was instrumental in getting all of the names and numbers etched unto the fans, which enabled them to distribute them today so you need to thank the warden for allowing them to expedite the process. Also, the colonel and everyone else involved. We definitely appreciated their efforts on that note;
I wanted to thank you all! Be well and take care.
Anton

Hannah,
I never thought I’d see it. Nineteen years in a cage suffering the heat and the humidity!!
And today…this fan that’s blowing on me as I write this…makes all the difference in the world!! It’ll be good to be able to actually do things again, without sweat pouring down my back and chest at the slightest movement!
Thanks! And thanks for expediting it so we didn’t have to go through another August before getting a fan!
Please…I don’t have their address but tell the people at FADP how much this is appreciated!!! This would be the first night in months I haven’t had to get up three or four times, sweating…and pour “cold” water over my head and wash with “cold” water. A good night’s sleep at last!
Sometimes…and I know we all do it in here…its easy to forget how many nice people there are out there.
Thank you all for being in that group,

Sincerely,
Bob.

Dianne’s Rant

Greetings from an unusually cool and comfy Ohio! For once, we Buckeyes don’t have a monopoly on cool breezes; I can hear your fans whirl all the way up here. It’s a great sound, isn’t it? Enjoy! Well, it’s been a busy month since I last sat down to write you. A few weeks ago we made a little road trip in hopes of seeing our next Prez, Mr. Kerry, in the flesh, but apparently so did over 10,000 others who had the same idea. I was hoping to sit down with John and talk a little strategy on how to kick Dubya’s tail, but it wasn’t meant to be. 10,000 people cannot fit into a secured two-block area in the middle of a small town, and with security checks moving at a snail’s pace as well; over two-thirds of us were turned away. But, even though I didn’t get to see the Kerry in person, we did hang out for a few hours, reading the buttons and signs, heckling the Pro-Bush supporters, and talking with other like-minded people. It was a thrill to witness the vibes of thousands of other dedicated, liberal thinkers who came together and lined the streets in support of something better. It gave me hope and I just couldn’t stop grinning. These people were vocal and pissed! It made me proud to be American, and I don’t often say that lately. If I EVER hear the words “Swift Boat Controversy” again, it will be too soon. What a total waste of time, and we’re totally forgetting about the issues that count for this day in time. Despite revelations that those fellow Nam vets speaking out in criticism of Kerry are funded and backed by men with “umbilical financial ties” to the Bush boys, Dubya still rides high in the polls. And, equally as odd, Kerry shows a slump and gets criticism for running “negative ads.” How nuts is that? Rumor has it that the Swift Boat Veterans may have received financial assistance directly from the Bush camp, (which would be a violation of the law), and Bush campaign officials in Florida were recently caught handing out Swift Boat Vets promotional flyers at Bush/Cheney headquarters. How nice of Jeb’s state to help his big bro dig himself in just a little deeper! It’s about time they get caught with their hands in the electoral cookie jar! If there does exist "overwhelming evidence" of cooperation between the “Swifties” and Bush, then there is proof of a criminal conspiracy. The nastiest reality of this dirt-slinging is that it turns out that those speaking out to condemn Kerry weren’t even there, Yet Dub’ya sits back

(probably smirking that smirk) and allows this slander to advance his chances for reelection. How dare he imply that Kerry acted less than admirably during a time of war? Coming from a man who brought us into a needless war for profit, which has wasted almost 1,000 young lives; he has no room to condemn. Have I mentioned recently that we need to get out the vote and remove this lying and corrupt embarrassment from office? Yes, that IS a hint! ?On a brighter note, the Olympic Games have begun in Greece, and I’m sure many of you are finding them to be a pleasant diversion from prime time repeats and day-time “Soaps.” There have been some great moments, and the swimming and diving events have been wonderful to watch. Now, I’m no expert on B-ball, but what’s up with the USA men’s basketball team??? Can anyone explain this to me? They’ve lost more games in one week (2) than they’ve lost in the past 60+ years of Olympic competition. Their embarrassing loss to Lithuania showed a total lack of concentration and a complete collapse of the most basic fundamental skills during the final few minutes. Still, even with two losses against them, they still have a chance to compete again and maybe get a medal (although I wouldn’t hold my breath!). I’m also wondering how they can do that?! Two dismal losses and they should be on the next plane home with their tail between their legs. I don’t know about you, but I’m cheering for Lithuania! It’s only August but it’s time to gear-up for foot-ball chat and speculation of which draft picks will turn out to be the best, and which teams will make it to the play-offs. Here in Ohio, it’s all about the Packers and the Browns, just as I’m sure you’re all about the Jags and Tampa Bay. We’ll see. Minnesota stands a good chance, as does Atlanta. In college ball, I’m hearing talk of the So Cal Trojans being THE team to beat/? Who??? Nope, sorry, we can’t allow that! I’ll stick with Michigan since Ohio State is rumored to be dismal again this year. How cool if we ended up with the Wolverines vs the Gators at the end of the season. Go Blue! ? Well, let me end here for this month. Take care, keep cool, and thanks to all of you who have taken time and postage to drop me a line to share your kind thoughts and comments about my monthly rant. Hopefully my casual observations and general chit-chat brings you a smile from time to time. Thanks for putting up with me and for allowing me to share a little time with each of you.
Till later –Be well!

Paws -ing to bloviate…by …R.Udeasheck

I am fully aware that my many eager readers (actually, two) will probably recall (but knowing you, you won’t) that I had promised to write about the Republican Convention, which starts this month, in New York. However, a few days ago, Miss Hannah came into my office and informed me that the deadline for this issue of the newsletter had been changed; furthermore she informed me that this time she did not want me to say anything which in any way might be interpreted as disparaging about the current administration, because this issue of the newsletter was going to be distributed to a wider audience, some of whom she felt might not approve. Though I find myself at a complete loss as to what she could possibly mean, her argument was so compelling that all I could do was to nod in agreement! After she removed the duct tape, and put the shotgun back in the closet I breathed a sigh of relief that she completely forgot to mention anything about the Bat Shit Veterans for Bush Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who have dominated so much of the news this month. This group has published a book, “Unfit for Command”, and two TV ads in which they seek to discredit John Kerry’s service record in the Vietnam war, much in the manner of similar past efforts against John McCain and Max Cleland. Aside from the administration refusing to condemn the ads, which have been called “dishonest and dishonorable” by John McCain (a Republican), the average voter might be forgiven for somehow missing how ads discussing the Vietnam war are supposed to provide current solutions - especially if those voters have noticed lately that the occupation in Iraq isn’t exactly going as swimmingly as expected, and the jobs which were supposed to be created by those tax cuts benefiting the richest Americans have somehow failed to materialize. August was also the month Charley wreaked a path of destruction through Florida. Our Governor commented thus on the occasion: “This is God’s way of showing us that he’s almighty and we’re mortal.” Mark Kleiman, a professor at UCLA, had a few appropriate remarks, which I quote at length – just so you cannot say that you never read anything intelligent in this column: “Does he really worship a Moloch who kills a bunch of people every once in a while just to show Who’s Boss?.... In the very same breath the Governor uses to express humility in the face of the failure of computer models to guess which way the hurricane would head, he seems to express confidence that he, Jeb Bush (whether by direct inspiration or by the power vested in him by the people of Florida), knows why the hurricane was sent to wreak such havoc, and that what he knows is that it was an intentional act of --- well, can you think of a better word for it that “terrorism”? – On the part of an omnipotent and (allegedly) beneficent Deity. How does he know? And why does he worship such a cruel God? Does he think cruelty is the basic expression of power?” Indeed! And of course, it seems that Jeb forgot to read his bible, which tells us that God “was not in the wind” [1Kings 19] Sometimes, when politics and religion become mixed up, the strangest things happen. Starting this month, I’ll introduce you to a website* which makes fun of some items being marketed by some people of the extreme rightwing variety, whose mission is to convince the rest of us that God would vote for a certain President who shall remain nameless because Miss Hannah has a large supply of duct tape, and I have only a limited supply of fur. So let’s begin by featuring what the website refers to as “cutting-edge End Times witnessing tools for those who would exploit Christianity for various acts of wing nuttery and profit” --- The t-shirt. “The caption reads: “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” Unseen text on the back reads: “But since that didn’t work, I swallowed my cross.”“ *) Thanks to Pete from “The Dark Window.” The Dark Window Taking into consideration the mentioned strict limitations imposed by Miss Hannah, I’ll end this month’s bloviating by letting the White House official pool report (as cited by the Washington Times this month) say it all, really: President Bush stopped for about 20 minutes at the Cady Cheese Factory and Shoppe … near Wilson, Wisconsin. He toured the factory briefly, urging his host, Dale Marcott, to tell him what they do. Their conversation was hard to hear, but essentially Marcott told the president they make cheese…

Yours truly… R. Udeasheck

Questions of the month!

How can some people, hired by the DOC to protect the public and the prisoners, feel it is their right to abuse their power and HURT what they are paid to protect?…How can a group of grown men find any kind of pleasure in beating up a fellow human being after fully restraining him, and making sure he in no way shape or form can protect let alone defend himself? …. How can anyone beat and kick a helpless defenseless man unconscious one day, and go to church the next? How do they show one human being nothing but disrespect and utter contempt, and believe they can raise their children to be decent caring citizens?…HOW IN HEAVENS NAME can one group of people get paid to perform especially henious, atrocious, AND cruelpunishment – by the same society who send people to death row for similar crimes?…How can nurses and doctors, paid by society to heal and do good, get away with, and live with themselves, covering violent crimes that should be punished?…How can one woman (secretary) be so insensitive to another woman’s plea for information, that she is willing to lie to protect the violent offenders?…How can a woman refuse to help a mother who just wants to know if her baby is still alive and okay? Why are so many so eager to cover up violence and criminal behavior, while feeling it is A-OKAY because they are just dealing with men who committed violent crimes!… It is totally and utterly shameful that all these PUBLIC servants who have such a responsibility and are being shown so much trust, are lying through their teeth to protect themselves and their peers…. It is not only shameful and pitiful, it is totally unacceptable This happened at UCI mid-August, and not in Iraq as some might think! Our hearts go out, not only to you who have to endure this kind of evil being behind the bars, but also to the men and women working for the DOC who are decent human beings and having to live with this everyday.
An awesome man of God told us in church today that SIN really means: “To miss the mark” –and in light of that, I think it is safe to say that the handful of men who beat up ONE defenseless fellow human being, totally and utterly and indeed missed the mark.
Let me end this of with a martin Luther King quote:
“The greatest sin of our time is not the few who have destroyed but the vast majority who’ve sat idly by.”
Churches are praying for protection over all of you.

Be blessed …..Hannah
